He has medical degree from Bahia School of Medicine and Public Health, a Master’s Degree in Human Pathology from Federal University of Bahia, PhD in Human Pathology from Federal University of Bahia, postdoctoral degree from Case Western Reserve University and the Harvard School of Public Health. Full Researcher at Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, Researcher category 1A of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development – CNPq, Full Professor at Federal University of Bahia, Full Professor at the Bahia School of Medicine and Public Health and Associate Visiting Professor at Yale University. Founder Associate of Management and Strategic Studies Center, he is currently coordinator of Pathology and Molecular Biology laboratory at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, Executive Coordinator of the Northeast Network of Biotechnology (RENORBIO). He is member of Bahia Academy of Sciences, member of Bahia Medical Academy, Scientific Technical Council of the Federation of Industries of Bahia (FIEB), a member of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for Research Support of the State of Bahia – FAPESB, Coordinator of Postgraduate Course in Biotechnology in Health and Investigative Medicine, Director of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation in four terms and President of the Brazilian Society of Tropical Medicine. He carries out studies on clinical and molecular epidemiology and Immunopathogenesis of parasitic infectious diseases oriented to technological development and innovation with emphasis on Arboviruses, Chagas’ disease, Schistosomiasis, Viral Hepatitis, Leptospirosis and Bacterial Meningitis.
