The researcher has a degree in Pharmacy Biochemistry from Federal University of Bahia (1980), a degree in Pharmacy Food from the Federal University of Bahia (1984), a Master’s degree in Genetics and Molecular Biology from the State University of Campinas (1989), Sandwich Doctorate – Medical College Of Georgia (1991-1993), PhD in Genetics and Molecular Biology from University of Campinas State (1994) and postdoctoral degree from University of Pennsylvania (2005). She is currently a Senior Researcher at the Gonçalo Moniz Research Center (CPqGM) at FIOCRUZ-BA, Associate Professor IV at the Faculty of Pharmacy of Federal University of Bahia and a productivity researcher at the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development. In postgraduate course she teaches Pathology in the Faculty of Medicine of UFBA and CPqGM-FIOCRUZ and in Pharmacy course of Faculty of Pharmacy of UFBA, being vice-coordinator and member of collegiate of the postgraduate course; She is also a collaborating professor in the postgraduate course in Biotechnology and Investigative Medicine of CPqGM-FIOCRUZ and in the Immunology course of Institute of Health Sciences of UFBA. She is currently Vice-Director of Research, Reference and Innovation Laboratories at CPqGM-FIOCRUZ-BA and has experience in Genetics, with emphasis in Molecular Biology, working in the area of genetics interaction with hematological, biochemical and immunological markers, mainly in: sickle cell disease, fetal hemoglobin, hemoglobinopathies, leukemias, and maternal-fetal health.
